CAPTAIN BLOOD'S CORNER!
MATCH REPORT Vs CENTRALS
RESERVES
A Sunday
afternoon out at Trinity Beach saw the reserves got their season back on
track with a hard-fought, determined win over the Bulldogs. With the
bare minimum of 22 turning up on time it was a great team effort that got
the boys over the line. Kicking with the wind in the 1st quarter, the
boys got a couple of late goals to take a 3 goal advantage into quarter
time. A great defensive effort in the 2nd term, was slightly let down
by 2 late goals to the dogs as we took an 8 point lead into the main break.
We were looking for some quick goals in the 3rd quarter, but it wasn't to
be, as Centrals dug in and our fumbles increased, we were only able to
maintain our 8 point lead at the last break. Coach Turtle, in Hammys
absence, asked for a big effort, and the Ressies boys delivered, playing
arguably their best quarter of the season, allowing Centrals to score just
a solitary point, while kicking 1.7 to the non-scoring end. While the
margin only ended up at 18 points, the talk after the game was that the 2's
had turned the corner and are gearing up for a September run. Best
players on the day were Kane Parker, who was marking everything and kicked
a lovely banana goal to seal victory, Adrian English in his 1st game for
the year showed that he's still got it and could be a vital player for us
in the finals, while the entire backline did a great job all day.
SENIORS
Wes' boys ran onto Crathern Oval knowing that their season was on
the line, and for 2 and a half quarters, they played that way. with
some great run and carry being provided by Bosen, Mooka and young Nemo, the
Tigers were playing some great footy. The backiline was at its best in the
1st half, constantly turning the Centrals attack around and allowing just 2
goals for the half. While the lead was only 14 points at the break,
the feeilng was good around the ground that the lads were headed for a
vital win. The start of the 3rd quarter was dominated by the
Tigers, however some crucial misses in front of goal never allowed us to
gain the breathing space required. After being 20 points up mid way
through the term, Centrals fought back hard late to level the scores at 3/4
time. Wes laid it on the line in the huddle, and unlike the 2's, the
seniors found very little in a disappoining last quarter, especially when
you consider what was at stake. Centrals were able to take advantage
of loose players all over the ground, while the backline appeared to have
clocked off after their great first half effort. This loss has made
the seniors finals aspirations very difficult now and we are pretty much in
the position of having to win our remaining 5 games to qualify.
Skipper Tenna was again great for the Tigers, kicking 5 goals and trying to
lift his team, Purts was good around the ground and u18 Nemo showed he is a
star of the future with some great passages of play. Next game we
have is against the Cobras at Watsons Oval, with 2 wins an absolute must
for the Tigers.
